Obviously ONLY I was cynic enough to notice that the sole award ceremony where Kate Winslet dedicated his victory to the memory of Anthony Minghella and Sydney Pollack (and where she mentioned them with more emphasis) was BAFTA, which, weird enough, takes place only the week before Oscar final polls close.
Now...

And apparently you're the only one to notice that Kate Winslet is really a man. _________________ Conan on TBS

I did too. I'd like to think she really meant it. Even though Harvey probably kidnapped her kids and dangled them over the crater of a volcano so she would say it. But yeah...didn't go unnoticed. |

Well, she did mention them at the Golden Globes and SAG. It's a reach. I thought there was a nice moment at SAG, actually when she mentioned them and everyone in the room applauded. It's only respectable for her to mention them. I'm kind of over nit-picking every little thing she does now. |

I know, but I said "dedicated", not only "mentioned".
I had truly the impression it was a bit loud. |

| Viola Davis is on Jay Leno. She said she only saw Doubt once because she hated the snot and boogers flying out of her nose. Jay said "...that's acting" and she said "No. That's genetics. I couldn't help it". |

You can just listen to her and tell she's made for the stage. She projects so amazingly well... without shouting. I love that she said she had to beat people up when they got to Rhode Island just to make sure people didn't mess with them. And, yeah. It's Cruz or her for the win for me. I'd vote for Cruz. But, Davis would be a very deserving winner, too.
It'll be really interesting to see what casting directors do with her from now on. |

Harvey Weinstein's at it again.
From the IMDb:
| Quote: | Weinstein Tips Nine For Oscar Glory
12 February 2009 8:35 AM, PST
Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein is predicting Oscar success for his latest project - movie-musical Nine.
The film, starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Penelope Cruz and Nicole Kidman, recently wrapped shooting and is scheduled to hit cinemas in November.
The all-star cast is directed by Rob Marshall, who also helmed critically-acclaimed 2002 musical Chicago - which garnered six Academy Awards, including a Best Supporting Actress gong for Catherine Zeta-Jones.
And Weinstein is sure the winning formula will be repeated with Nine.
He says, "Most definitely. You'll see a lot of nominations. You'll see a lot of dancing too. Really, this is a great musical, a lot of great musical numbers.
"It's directed by Rob Marshall. We won the Oscar for Chicago; hopefully we'll get in the arena again."
|
Wow. He's so powerful, he can even travel back in time and win Rob Marshall an Oscar for Chicago. _________________

He didn't say Rob Marshall won the Oscar. He said "we" (as in, we the team who made the movie) "won the Oscar for Chicago", as in, our efforts resulted in a Best Picture winner. _________________

Peter Gabriel backs out of the Oscars...
Peter Gabriel just pulled out of performing at the Academy Awards show. In a letter to the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences, the co-writer and performer of Wall-E's "Down To Earth" says he doesn't think the nominated songs, and their writers and performers, are getting enough respect during this year's Oscars telecast. That's because the show's producers, Larry Mark and Bill Condon, have reduced the song segment to a medley of the three songs nominated for Original Song. Producers have slotted 90 seconds in the medley for each song sung by its original performer. But Gabriel said in his letter that he was only being offered 65 seconds for his song. "I don't feel that is sufficient time to do the song justice, and I have decided to withdraw from performing," Gabriel informed AMPAS. "I fully respect and look forward to the producers' right to revamp the show. Even though song writers are small players in the filmmmaking process, they are just as committed and work just as hard as the rest of the team, and I regret that this new version of the ceremony is being created in part at their expense." The medley is the brainchild of the producers in their attempt to get the Oscar show's running time down to 3 hours. No word yet on whom the producers will choose to sing in place of Gabriel. |

i don't get why, if timing is an issue, they don't dump the preshow or walters' special to give the awards another hour. It's good for ad revenues so why worry if it goes long? personally, i like that the music performances give a break to the endless lame parade of fashion and quips.
when i produce the show, i'm going to make some changes. |

| Carrie Underwood was on Ryan Seacrest's radio show today and said she'd be at the Academy Awards. There really isn't any other reason for her to be there, right? I suppose she may step in for Gabriel. |
